Our Teen Therapy Process

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially when you are trying to find the right support for your teen, young adult, or family. At Kincove, our process is designed to feel thoughtful, transparent, and clinically guided from the beginning.

We take time to understand the whole picture: your child’s emotional needs, developmental stage, family dynamics, strengths, challenges, and goals. From there, we create a personalized care plan and thoughtfully match each client with the clinician and services that best fit their needs.

Our goal is to create a trusted path toward emotional growth, stronger relationships, and lasting wellbeing.

What Makes Our Process Different

Our process is designed to provide:

THOUGHTFUL THERAPIST MATCH
We consider clinical needs, relational fit, personality, and treatment goals when matching each client with a therapist.

WHOLE-FAMILY PERSPECTIVE
We support the teen or young adult while also helping parents understand the bigger picture and stay appropriately involved.

FLEXIBLE, INTEGRATED CARE
Treatment may include individual therapy, family therapy, parent support, group therapy, neurofeedback, or other wellness services depending on what is clinically appropriate.

ONGOING REFLECTION & ADJUSTMENT
Care is not static. We revisit goals, track progress, and adapt the treatment plan as the client grows.

How it Works

  • The first step is a brief consultation call where we learn more about what is bringing you to Kincove, answer initial questions, and help determine whether our approach feels like a good fit for your family.

  • Next, you meet with our Clinical Director for a more in-depth conversation about your teen or young adult’s history, current concerns, strengths, family context, and goals for care.

Together, we begin to identify what kind of support may be most helpful, whether that includes individual therapy, family therapy, parent support, group therapy, neurofeedback, or another specialized service.

  • Based on what we learn, we thoughtfully match your teen or young adult with a clinician whose training, style, and areas of focus align with their needs.

We consider not only symptoms or presenting concerns, but also personality, developmental stage, family dynamics, and what may help your child feel safe, understood, and engaged in the process.

  • Our process typically begins with a 60–90 minute intake session where we gather background information, understand your teen’s needs, and determine the best therapeutic fit. Depending on your teen’s developmental stage and the presenting concerns, parents may be included in part of the intake process so we can better understand the family context, history, and goals for treatment.

From there, your teen meets individually with their therapist, while parent involvement is thoughtfully integrated when clinically appropriate.

  • Once treatment begins, care may include individual therapy, family therapy, parent sessions, group therapy, neurofeedback, or a combination of services. The plan is tailored to each client and adjusted over time as needs evolve.

Our clinicians remain attentive to progress, engagement, and what is happening both inside and outside of sessions.

What Parents Can Expect

Parents are an important part of the process, especially when working with adolescents. At Kincove, we balance your child’s need for privacy and trust with your need to feel informed, supported, and involved.

Depending on your child’s age and clinical needs, parent involvement may include periodic parent check-ins, family sessions, treatment planning conversations, and guidance around how to support growth at home.

Our goal is not to over-involve parents or keep them at a distance. Instead, we help families find the right level of involvement so that therapy supports both individual growth and healthier family dynamics.

Throughout this process there will also be…

Parental Involvement

We believe meaningful growth happens when caregivers are involved. Parents and caregivers meet regularly with the therapist to review progress, learn supportive strategies, and stay connected to their child’s care. This collaboration helps reinforce growth at home and strengthens long term outcomes.

Progress Check-Ins & Adaptation

We use evidence based tools to understand each client’s emotional, behavioral, and cognitive growth. Progress is reviewed regularly so goals and strategies can be adjusted as needed, ensuring therapy stays responsive and effective over time.
