When one member of the family is hurting, everyone feels it.
The argument may start over school, a phone, motivation, curfew, or something that seems small. But after a while, it’s rarely just about the thing you’re arguing about.
One person pushes harder. Another shuts down. Parents disagree about how to respond. The same conversations keep ending in the same place.
Family therapy helps families understand what’s happening underneath these patterns, work through difficult conversations, and change how they respond to one another.

Family Therapy Services at Kincove
Our Approach to Family Therapy
Sometimes there’s one clear issue bringing a family to therapy. Other times, tension has built over time and it’s hard to know how to get out of the pattern.
We work with families around:
Recurring conflict and communication breakdowns
Parent-child relationships that have become tense or disconnected
A teen or young adult struggling in ways that affect the whole family
Different parenting approaches or disagreements about how to respond
Increasing independence and changing family roles
Separation, divorce, blended families, grief, and other transitions
Trust that has been damaged or become difficult to rebuild
What Family Therapy Looks Like
Family therapy isn’t about deciding who’s right or who needs to change. We look at what happens between family members: where conversations break down, how each person responds when tension builds, and what keeps the same dynamics going.
Sessions may include the whole family, parents, a parent and child, siblings, or different combinations of family members depending on what we’re working on.
Sometimes the work is about slowing down a conversation that usually becomes an argument. Other times, it’s about understanding where each person is coming from, working through something that has been difficult to talk about, or figuring out what each person can do differently so the same pattern doesn’t keep repeating.
Family Therapy Alongside Individual Therapy
Sometimes a teen or young adult needs their own space in individual therapy, while the family also needs support with what’s happening at home.
Family therapy gives families a place to work on conflict, communication, changing roles, and patterns that involve more than one person, without taking away from the young person’s individual therapy.
Family therapy can happen alongside therapy at Kincove or with an outside therapist. When helpful and with consent, we can coordinate with other providers involved in care
Fees
Family therapy sessions are available in 50-minute ($250) and 80-minute ($300) formats. During your complimentary consultation, we'll discuss your family's goals, answer any questions you have, and recommend the session length and treatment approach that best fits your family's needs.
A limited number of sliding scale appointments are available based on financial need. If cost is a concern, you're welcome to ask about our sliding scale options during your consultation.
Insurance
Kincove is a private-pay, out-of-network practice. If you have PPO insurance or FSA/HSA benefits, we provide superbills that can be submitted to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
We've partnered with Mentaya to make using your out-of-network benefits easier. You can quickly check your eligibility and estimate your reimbursement before beginning therapy.
